A few small words. At first glance, they seem so harmless. And yet: once spoken, they cannot be easily recaptured. And once released, even if there was no ill intent, they can unfold an immense damaging effect. They can painfully hurt, sow mistrust, cause factions, and poison the atmosphere. Above all, they can travel further than we would have thought possible. And the worst part is that usually by the second or third hearing, they are received quite differently from how they were originally meant.
I said something, and I deeply regret it. Especially because someone else had to suffer from the consequences of these words. If I had known beforehand what would develop from this conversation, I probably wouldn't have had it. But in essence, we never know this beforehand. This should really be a lesson to me, so that in the future I no longer carelessly blurt out all sorts of things, but instead pray with the Psalmist: Lord, set a guard over my mouth!
